STRUCTURE: NHS and academic bodies have agreed to establish an “Oxford Academic Health Partnership”.

The plan follows December’s NHS report on “Innovation, Health and Wealth”, which proposed the establishment of academic health science networks across England based on existing research centres.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust board papers for February say: “A very positive meeting was held on 21 February… it was agreed to set up a small working party to develop proposals for the establishment of the “Oxford Academic Health Partnership”.

The partnership is being developed with the aim of “delivering improvements in evidence–based care, research and all aspects of multi-professional education and training” and “strengthen collaboration across the whole health economy.”

Participating are Oxford Brookes University, Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Oxfordshire PCT, the University of Oxford, Oxford Health Foundation Trust, Oxford University Hospitals Trust, Oxford Learning Disabilities Trust, and its successor Southern Health Foundation Trust.
