Former chief executive of the NHS in Scotland Sir Don Cruickshank is to be the new chairman of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sir Don, who will take over from Sir Peter Davis later in the year, said: “I am delighted to be joining the charity. Marie Curie provides a remarkable free service to people with cancer and other terminal illnesses, along with much-needed support for their families.

“However, not everyone who needs our care at home or in a hospice can access it, so we are all very encouraged that end of life care in the UK is gaining a much higher profile - and politicians are sitting up and taking notice of the issues.

“There is still a great deal to do and I am relishing the prospect of building on the successes achieved by Sir Peter and his team.”
