Mike Taylor has been appointed chair of NHS Cumbria.
Mr Taylor has previously held a number of public appointments, including North West appointments commissioner for the Appointments Commission, deputy chair of the Appointments Commission, national assessor for Investors in People, and chair of Chester Aid to the Homeless.
He was awarded a CBE in 1992 for services to the military and is an honorary colonel commandant of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
Mr Taylor said: “I am honoured to have been appointed to take on this role and serve the people of Cumbria. The delivery of health services is an important issue for all and I believe that NHS Cumbria’s priority to deliver these services closer to home will benefit the county’s residents.”
He will take up his duties on 1 April 2010 for a term of four years.
Acting chair Ian Gordon will step down and return to his role of non-executive director on 1 April 2010.
