NHS Employers has appointed Dean Royles as its new director.
Currently director of workforce and education at NHS North West, Mr Royles has worked in a variety of roles in the NHS for the past two decades, including three years at the Department of Health as director of HR capacity (England).
He is also chair of the executive board of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). He replaces Sian Thomas.
Nigel Edwards, acting chief executive of NHS Confederation, said: “We are delighted that Dean will be leading NHS Employers. He is well known and highly respected in the human resources community and more widely in the NHS, and brings enormous experience of both the NHS and the Department of Health to the role. We warmly welcome his appointment.”
Mr Royles said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead NHS Employers. HR and workforce leads face enormous challenges and opportunities as the NHS plans for the new system while still delivering for staff, patients and the public. I want to ensure that NHS Employers is playing a strong and supportive role, helping them and their organisations to move forward feeling well equipped to lead change on this scale.”
