FINANCE: Portsmouth Hospitals Trust has received a £6.2m bailout from the Department of Health.

The trust, which has a large PFI hospital to make repayments on, confirmed it had received the loan from the DH this week.

The trust make a unitary payment of £47.1m this financial year, approximately 10 per cent of its income.

It was not one of the seven trusts that is officially receiving DH support with its PFI.

The trust’s finance director told local media the loan was partly a timing issue, as it must make unitary payments at the start of the month but income from commissioners did not arrive until later in the month.
