WORKFORCE: Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is slipping against targets for cutting the size and cost of its workforce.

The overall paybill for September fell by £204,000 to £19.7m in September. However, the trust’s workforce report said “the total cumulative paybill is £3.1m greater than the planned position for September”.

Total workforce capacity fell by four full time equivalent to 5,896 “as a result of temporary staffing reductions”.

Since March 2011 there has been reduction of 110 full time posts overall, but that is still 451 higher than planned.
