FINANCE: The East of England Ambulance Service Trust has signed up to an ambitious carbon reduction plan which commits it to reducing emissions  by 30 per cent by March 2016.

If successful, the trust estimates it will save £9.7m.

Key areas being addressed are a new advanced clinical triage system, which is expected to help more patients to self-care and reduce ambulance call-outs, and increasing driver awareness which will encourage more fuel-efficient driving.

The plan involves an investment of £416,000, but this is expected to drive savings of over £2m a year.
