STRUCTURE: North West Ambulance Service Trust has begun investment in additional staff and vehicles needed to establish major trauma networks ahead of funding confirmation from commissioners, according to latest board reports.

Papers for the NWAS’s 24 July board meeting states that: “A review has been carried out by Cap Gemini around the impact of Major Trauma on NWAS, looking at the resource implications”.

They add: “This was a joint review by NWAS and the Commissioners and indicates that in order to maintain operational performance and services to patients, there needs to be an increase in overall resources to NWAS.

“This is currently under discussion with the commissioners. However, in order to meet the timescales for the roll out across the North West, the trust has commenced the process for the recruitment of staff and ordering of additional vehicles in advance of receiving confirmation of funding from the commissioners.”
