PERFORMANCE: The 18 week referral to treatment target is continuing to be breached in the Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral PCT cluster with particular problems at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust.
The cluster board meeting heard that there were breaches in East and West Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral, and four hour breaches in A&E in Wirral.
The Wirral trust had been unable to clear a backlog but had not managed to do all of the work, Consequently only 75 per cent of patients were being treated within 18 weeks even though some work had been commissioned in the independent sector and there had been a fall in GP referrals. Now a revised plan includes extra activity carried out by the trust and additional patients transferred to the private sector in a bid to clear the backlog.
