PERFORMANCE: The Queen Victoria Hospital Foundation Trust reported one case of MSSA infection during the first quarter of the year, according to board papers.
The papers said one patient was identified as having MSSA bacteraemia in the first three months of 2011-12, starting in April. This was a patient within the burns unit with a 21 per cent burn.
“A full root cause analysis investigation was undertaken to identify lessons that could be learned,” the board papers added.
There were no patients identified as having MRSA positive blood cultures or Clostridium difficile. The trust has targets for the year of one case each of MRSA and C difficile.
