STRUCTURE: A planning application for the county’s first ever radiotherapy facility was submitted last month.

The trust is hoping to get permission to build a  “state of the art radiotherapy centre” on land currently used as the accident and emergency car park at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The trust is also hoping to create an additional 401 parking spaces on land adjacent to the hospital site, to replace the 209 spaces that will be lost when the centre is built. This would create an additional 204 parking spaces for patients, visitors and staff at the hospital, bringing the total number of spaces on the site to 1,470.

The plans form part of the Worcestershire Oncology Project, which is working to develop a “world class” radiotherapy facility in Worcestershire by the end of 2013 and deliver almost all chemotherapy in the county.
