FINANCE: The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust beat its deficit target for quarter one of 2011-12 thanks to £1.4m more income than expected.

The trust had an income of £75.1m in quarter one against a plan of £73.7m.

However it overspent on pay by £300,000 and by another £500,000 on other operational costs.

The  trust reported borrowing of £35m, in line with plan.

The cost improvement plan was on target, although £3m savings were identified as being “at risk”.
