WORKFORCE: Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust interim chief executive Lezli Boswell has been appointed to lead the trust on a permanent basis.
Ms Boswell joined the trust in September from Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust, after previous chief executive Peter Colclough left to join Weston Area Health Trust.
Trust chair Martin Watts said: “I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Lezli Boswell as the new chief executive of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. The importance and significance of this appointment to lead the provision of ‘acute care’ for Cornwall through our three hospitals over the next five plus years cannot be overstated.
“Lezli has a proven track record of leading successful NHS organisations including within Cornwall, and I know that she will have the full support of our healthcare partners, patients and staff as we move to become a thriving NHS Foundation Trust.”
The trust has just submitted its foundation trust application to the DH after the department agreed to refinance a £25m balance on a loan which had been due to be paid off in full during 2012-13. Payments will now be spread over 15 years.
Ms Boswell, who led Cornwall Partnership to foundation trust status, said: “I am delighted to have been offered the position of chief executive… Having spent the last 3 months as interim chief executive, and several years in the NHS in Cornwall this is an opportunity and a challenge I welcome.”
