STRUCTURE: Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has increased the proposed size of its council of governors from 16 to 20 in response to its consultation on becoming a foundation trust.

There are two extra public governors, an additional one for the east of the county and one for the Isles of Scilly, giving the islands their own governor. There will also be two extra staff governors after healthcare assistants, allied healthcare professionals, scientific and technical staff and those in administrative or support roles asked for more representation.

A report to the board said: “Additional governors in those categories will enable a wider range of staff to stand and be elected to the council.”

The trust is due to submit is foundation trust application to the Department of Health in January.
