STRUCTURE: Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust has withdrawn its request to reactivate its foundation trust application due to board resignations earlier this year.

Chair Martin Watts was forced to resign in June following allegations he had breached the trust’s dignity policy. Three non-executives also resigned in protest and it has been reported Mr Watts is taking the trust to a tribunal.

Chief executive Lezli Boswell’s report to September’s board said the trust had submitted an application to reactivate its foundation trust application in July. However, the report said “given the time it will take to recruit and ‘re-establish’ a full unified board”, and following discussions with Monitor and the NHS Trust Development Authority, the application has been formally withdrawn. The decision will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
