WORKFORCE: The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has lost three doctors as a result of a reduction in the medical and dental education levy (MADEL).
MADEL is to be cut by 5 per cent in each of the financial years 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
In his report to the board, trust chief executive Peter Colclough said: “Initial predictions were that this would translate directly into a 15 per cent reduction in junior doctor’s posts.
“The deanery confirmed in October 2010 that, after negotiations with the SHA, for the 2011-12 financial year there would be a smaller reduction in numbers of posts.”
The trust has lost two doctors in surgery and one in obstetrics and gynaecology.
