FINANCE: The north London acute anticipates cutting 450 posts from its workforce of 5,500.

Among the 280 posts identified are 16 doctors, 107 in nursing posts, 107 non-clinical and managerial posts and 23 in therapy posts.

The trust plans to save £5m by reducing agency spend and merging some support services.

It already shares its procurement function with The Whittington Trust.

Chief executive David Sloman said:  “The Royal Free is not immune to the financial pressures facing the NHS. All hospitals are being asked to contribute to the 20 per cent productivity improvement needed by the NHS.

“I have personally briefed colleagues across the trust to set out the scale of the challenges that we face. Clearly it is going to be difficult, but by working together I am confident that we can achieve our savings while continuing to provide excellent standards of care.”
