COMMERCIAL: The Department of Health is “weeks away” from a long-awaited announcement on the £425 million Royal Liverpool Hospital project, it has told HSJ’s sister title Construction News.

The business case is with the DH and Treasury after it was approved by the strategic health authority cluster in September last year.

A preferred bidder announcement on Royal Liverpool will not be made until central government has signed off the scheme. The shortlisted bidders are Carillion and Horizon – made up of Interserve, John Laing and Spanish contractor FCC.

A Department of Health spokesperson said: “The scheme’s business case for the appointment of a preferred bidder is currently under consideration.

“It is hoped that a decision can be made in the next few weeks.”

As reported by CN in December, the start date, originally mooted for April, has moved to July at the earliest.
