PERFORMANCE: Royal United Hospital Bath Trust has taken back the provision of maternity services after 22 years of the services run by other NHS providers.

While maternity services are delivered on the RUH site, until yesterday the organisation itself had not run the services since 1992.

The trust won a contract to run maternity services at the trust and at five community hospitals in Wiltshire and Somerset, previously run by Great Western Hospitals Foundation Trust, for the next three years.

The five birthing centres that will now be run by RUH are in Frome, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Paulton and Shepton Mallet.

Dr Bernie Marden, consultant paediatrician and head of the newly formed Women and Children’s Division at RUH, said: “The RUH is all about family and patient-centred care, and we believe that we will now be able to look after mothers and babies together much more effectively.”
