PERFORMANCE: Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust’s unit treating patients with lupus has retained its national ‘centre of excellence’ status following an analysis of its working practices.

The Lupus UK charity investigated the services provided by the unit and decided to renew its centre of excellence status. Lupus is an immune system disorder.

Charity trustee Yvonne Norton said: “I continue to be most impressed by the work taking place to help lupus patients at City Hospital and by the caring attitude shown by all members of the lupus team.”

The unit was first named by the charity as a centre of excellence in 2005.
