Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust has announced the appointment of Toby Lewis as new chief executive.

The trust’s former CEO John Adler is leaving after 10 years to take on the top job at the University Hospitals of Leicester.

Toby Lewis has joined Sandwell from Barts Health NHS Trust in London, where he was deputy chief executive development director.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Chairman, Richard Samuda said: “Toby comes with 18 years NHS background including extensive experience in London, but also in Yorkshire. His experience extends to primary care and to delivering community services in the Tower Hamlets area of London which has a similar population and economic profile to Sandwell and western Birmingham.”

Mr Lewis added: “It will be a real privilege to build on the achievements of recent years and to press forward towards the model of services and quality of care embodied in the vision for the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, and delivery of more care in the community and people’s homes.
