PERFORMANCE: Five patients have been waiting more than a year for treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital Foundation Trust.

The March trust board heard that it was predominately poor process and not clinical complexity which explained the long waits, although the number of patients waiting this long had significantly decreased. ‘Further urgent action is needed to resolve the position for the remaining long wait patients,’ a report said.

Trusts will face contractual penalties from this month for post 52 waiters, the report noted, adding that divisions needed to increase their focus on post 18 week waiters to ensure they did not wait for prolonged periods for treatment.
