WORKFORCE: Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust has been recruiting extra staff as it becomes a major trauma centre. Four extra whole time equivalent consultants will allow for a consultant presence in accident and emergency for 16 hours a day.

The March board meeting heard that activity modelling now suggested the centre would see an additional 147 patients a year than previously expected. The major trauma centres in the region – Leeds, Hull and Sheffield for adults – will support trauma units at other hospitals.
