PERFORMANCE: The number of bed days lost due to delays at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust increased by 262 per cent from December 2010 to January 2011, putting a target to half delays by the end of the year at risk.

According to board papers, 25 per cent of bed delays were due to completion of assessments, 16 per cent were due to further non acute NHS care, and a further 16 per cent of bed delays were due to awaiting care home placement and 20 per cent were due to awaiting care home placement.

This equates to an average of 31 beds lost per day due to delayed patients during January.
