PERFORMANCE: Delayed transfers of care are falling at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

The 2011-12 target was for delayed transfers to affect 26 patients a day or less, or 3.5 per cent of the trust’s bed base.

At the beginning of the year this figure was 50, but by March 2012 it had fallen to 27.

The trust is struggling against its target for 50 per cent of patient discharges to take place before midday. The figure was 32 per cent in March 2012, but the trust expected to be on target by March 31.

The trust was also red rated against its average elective length of stay target of 2.8 days.

Although at the trust’s Princess Royal Hospital in Telford the average was 2.6 days, elective patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital stayed on average four days.
