FINANCE: Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust is being given £35m from the Department of Health to spend on a planned reconfiguration of services.

The plans affect services at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital - both part of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

The trust would move the Royal Shrewsbury’s consultant-led maternity unit to the Princess Royal Hospital. Head and neck inpatient services would also be relocated to Telford.

Inpatient general surgery for vascular, colorectal and upper GI procedures would move to the Royal Shrewsbury.

£2m of the money will be allocated this financial year, and the rest in 2012-13.

Prime minister David Cameron announced on 6 March that around £330m of extra funding would be spent on providing “state of the art” equipment and facilities to improve services for patients.
