STRUCTURE: NHS Shropshire County has approved the outline business case for an acute service reconfiguration.

The preferred option will affect services at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital - both part of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

The plan, which requires a £34.96m capital loan repayable over 27 years, would move the Royal Shrewsbusy’s consultant-led maternity unit to the Princess Royal Hospital. Head and neck inpatient services would also be relocated to Telford.

Inpatient general surgery for vascular, colorectal and upper GI procedures would move to the Royal Shrewsbury.

The plan must now be approved by NHS West Midlands.
