FINANCE: The PCT could be heading for a £4.6m deficit under a “pessimistic” assessment of its quality, innovation, productivity and prevention (QIPP) plans.
Under this scenario, over performing schemes would come in on target, but under performing schemes would continue to under perform at the same rate.
In total, the PCT has made 138 per cent of the savings expected to date. However, better than expected performance in Continuing Healthcare is offsetting significant challenges in urgent care and planned care.
Continuing Healthcare savings are already 582 per cent of their £970,000 annual target. But the report queries whether this level of savings, which is mitigating underperformance in other areas, is sustainable.
The PCT is anticipating to meet its target surplus of £1m by the end of the year. As of 30 September 2011, the PCT was showing a year to date underspend of £524,370 (0.4 per cent) on its operating budgets.
