PERFORMANCE: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust had six cases of MRSA last year – and has started the new financial year with another suspected one.
This means the trust has exceeded its maximum target of three cases for 2012-13 and, should the April case be confirmed, will have exceeded this year’s target of no cases.
The trust also has a significantly reduced maximum target for C difficile of no more than 34 cases for this year: last year it had 52 cases and was within its target. A report to the board highlights the difficulty of isolating patients with diarrhoea when the trust is under pressure on capacity, and concerns about cleaning which have been raised with the facilities management provider.
