PERFORMANCE: Emergency admissions to Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trust fell by 4.7 per cent in 2011-12 compared with 2010-11, equivalent to a reduction of 607 spells.

However, at neighbouring Taunton and Somerset Foundation Trust they increased by 4.2 per cent or 1,131 spells.

Nationally, primary care trust are required to ensure that emergency admissions increase by less than one per cent annually. A report to the board of NHS Somerset said the PCT was working with both trusts to reduce unplanned admissions.
