WORKFORCE: Somerset Partnership Foundation Trust is to appoint a GP as deputy medical director to help build strong relationships with GP led clinical commissioning group.

The mental health trust’s annual plan reveals the board is concerned about a loss of income as a result of the any qualified provider policy.

The trust, which has recently taken on NHS Somerset’s provider arm, plans to mitigate this risk through strengthened board arrangements including the appointment of a GP as a deputy medical director and the creation of a new Strategic Partnership Advisory Group “to ensure that services relate to the aspirations of the local GP federations”.

The plan states: “By the end of 2013-14, the vision is of a physical and mental community health service with fully-integrated governance and operational structures and a single point of access for patients, and which will respond to the needs of GP commissioners.”
