FINANCE: A raised threshold for a marginal non-elective rate, demanded by the local acute trust, could lead to extra costs of £1.3m for NHS South East Essex.

The board papers said: “The PCT has agreed a local non-elective threshold that provides for the PCT to pay a marginal rate (30 per cent) for emergency activity within the Southend Hospital contract.

“Southend Hospital are now contending that the threshold needs adjusting upwards and were this to be done the PCT would face additional cost pressures of approximately £1.3m.”
