PERFORMANCE: South Tees Hospitals Foundation Trust is having to deal with more children under safeguarding procedures – with rates of children with child protection plans in some areas being considerably higher than the national average.
This rise in cases and the emphasis on early intervention and identification has led to increased operational demands on trusts, says a report to the trust board.
In Middlesbrough 80 children per 10000 have protection plans – more than double the national average.
The report outlines how the trust is responding to this increased requirement including training, audits, and changes within the team. But it highlights how times of change are historically times of increased risk for children.
