STRUCTURE: South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has proposed taking over neighbouring George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.

Chief executive Glen Burley said South Warwickshire has expressed an interest in “creating a partnership arrangement” to enable George Eliot service to reach foundation status.

“I have expressed our desire to evaluate the possibility of creating a Warwickshire Foundation Trust which would further the integration of hospital and community services across the county”, he said.

Mr Burley added: “The process is currently in the hands of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and in registering our interest we hope to be identified as their preferred partner.”

George Eliot also approached the South Warwickshire for help in setting up a “resident rota of consultant paediatricians” on the hospital site.

“Our help may be required to recruit new consultants to Warwickshire through the creation of a more joined-up medical staffing network,” he said.
