COMMERCIAL: Great Western Ambulance Service has expressed an interest in providing the NHS 111 service in the South West.

The new non-urgent telephone number is due to replace NHS Direct by April 2013 but will be provided at a more local level and providers must be able to dispatch an ambulance. NHS South West has launched a regional procurement.

A report to GWAS’ November board confirms the trust, which is in the process of merging with South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, has expressed an interest in line with the tender.
