WORKFORCE: Counter fraud specialists at NHS Protect have warned West and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Commissioning Support Unit about ‘inconsistencies’ and ‘weakness’ in their pre-employment checks.
The checks are for the uncovering of possible bribery, fraud or corruption among potential clinical commissioning group employees.
NHS Protect’s warning came in a review of procedures at WSYB CSU and among line managers for CCGs in Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
Doncaster CCG’s governing body papers said: “Overall, the report provided assurance that there is a clear process for conducting pre-employment checks within the recruitment managed by WSYB CSU.
“However, in practice, the exercise identified that there were inconsistencies in implementing this process in each individual’s recruitment, which represents a weakness in the application of agreed controls. The report advised that implementation of the actions recommended by the local counter fraud specialist would ensure that such opportunities for fraud are prevented.”
