STRUCTURE: Providers and commissioners are supporting Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust to expand its paediatric services.

In his report to the trust’s August board meeting, chief executive Mark Hackett said: “There continues to be provider and commissioner support for our expansion in paediatric services.”

He said Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was supporting Southampton to “run, operate and collect income for all the specialist paediatric clinics”, while Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust was “approaching us to deliver their paediatric orthopaedic services”.

Mr Hackett added: “We are continuing our academic development in paediatric orthopaedics to support continual development in this area, alongside the reinvestment of an additional NHS consultant, in response to increased demand for our referral units and retirements.”
