STRUCTURE: John Lawlor has been apppointed as the NHS Commissioning Board’s local area team director for Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear.

Mr Lawlor was previously chief executive of the Leeds, Bradford and Airedale PCT Cluster. His past roles include chief executive of Leeds PCT and of Harrogate and District Foundation Trust, in the department of health working on the swine flu response, and in the NHS Executive.

The Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear LAT is one of ten teams which will commission specialised health care across a larger patch on behalf of other LATs. Its budget is likely to be about £1bn.

A PCT cluster board paper by its chair Linda Pollard says: “I am sure you will join with me in wishing him every success in his new challenge in developing the health system in the North East. On a personal basis, I would like to thank John for his support and leadership of the organisation during his time at NHS Leeds, and latterly, NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds.

“Kevin Howells [previously finance director] will continue in his role as Acting Chief Executive, and I would also like to thank him and the rest of the director team, on behalf of the board, for
their continued commitment to the organisation.”
