STRUCTURE: NHS Suffolk has dissolved its Transformation and Transition Steering Board after problems with plans to divest the primary care trust of its provider arm.
The board agreed that the steering board “cannot satisfy” the requirement for “criteria approval, gateway review and process endorsement” of the transforming community services process.
As part of the government’s ongoing transforming community services project, the primary care trust must divest its provider arm to other bodies by April 2011.
But PCT board meeting minutes said: “There was significant risk to transferring community services to Ipswich Hospital and to West Suffolk Hospital and an alternative interim hosting arrangement was required.
“The board therefore approved the transfer of universal adult and specialist children’s services to an NHS community service provider [Suffolk Community Healthcare] as an interim hosting arrangement and concurrently establish and run a competitive procurement process to identify a substantive host for these services.”
The PCT’s board has conditionally approved the transfer of universal children’s services to Suffolk County Council and the transfer of Sexual Health Services operated by Suffolk Integrated Health to Cambridgeshire Community Services.
