Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust has been awarded a gold standard by the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons in its second National Audit of Theatre Equipment.

The trust, which has seen its surgery department heavily criticised for poor standards in recent years, has seen its performance on theatre equipment improve from 2010 when the trust was rated at the lowest standard - bronze, a category into which 28 per cent of UK hospitals fell.

Trust surgeon Michael Hershman said: “We are delighted that due to the hard work of the theatres team, the improvements necessary to raise the trust from Bronze to gold standard have been achieved.”
