PERFORMANCE: Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust has met the accident and emergency waiting time target for weeks in a row, according its chief executive.
In his latest weekly message, dated 11 May, Michael Wilson said: “I’d like to pay tribute to our ED staff and clinical site team for achieving the A&E four-hour wait target which has been over 95 per cent for the past four weeks (and they have achieved it whilst building works continue in the department).
“This is a huge accomplishment that has required staff to work in new and different ways whilst remaining focussed on providing high quality care for patients.”
The trust is in the middle of a £14m refurbishment programme at East Surrey Hospital, which includes construction of a new main entrance.
The current West Entrance of the hospital has been shut from 5 March while the new entrance is built. Patients and visitors are using the East Entrance only.
