WORKFORCE: Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust was relying on the arrival of a group of nurses from Ireland to bring two new wards up to their full staffing compliments.
A report from the trust’s chief nurse in December said: “Recruitment continues for the new modular wards. Currently recruitment is at 86 per cent of establishment for the new Copthorne Ward and 65 per cent for Charlwood.
“It is not envisaged that full recruitment will be achieved until later in the year with the arrival of the next group of Irish nurses.”
The report added: “This will have an impact on agency and bank spend.”
