PERFORMANCE: Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust has published a three-year Nursing and Midwifery Strategy intended to take frontline care to a “higher level”.

Trust chief nurse Susan Aitkenhead launched the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy for 2013-2016 at East Surrey Hospital on International Nurses Day.

Titled “Your Care First: Our commitment to safety, quality and compassion”, the strategy is described by the trust as the “culmination” of hard work by many nurses and midwives across the trust over the last three months.

It is underpinned by three key objectives:

  • Providing safe and effective patient care
  • Developing skills, behaviours and competence to deliver quality nursing and midwifery care
  • Building up the potential of our nursing and midwifery workforce

Ms Aitkenhead, who joined the trust in February, said: “This strategy sets out clearly how we will take our practice to the next level and demonstrate the huge positive difference we can make to patient outcomes, care and experience.”
