WORKFORCE: Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has appointed three new non-executive directors to its board.

Richard Congdon has previously held a number of chief executive and director of finance roles in the healthcare sector, and most recently held the post of chief executive of the Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries.

He will chair the trust’s Audit and Assurance Committee.

The second appointment is Richard Shaw, who has held the role of chief executive at both Surrey and Oxfordshire County Councils.

Thirdly, there is Alan Hall who has been the service director for BT Openreach since May 2010.

Mr Hall has been appointed as NED Designate. This role is a non-voting role; however Mr Hall will fully participate in all board activities.

Board chair Alan McCarthy said: “We are very fortunate to have been able to appoint such experienced non-executive board members with proven track record of success across a range of disciplines.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the two non-executives that have recently left us: Edward Cooke who has been at the trust for four years and was chair of Audit and Assurance, and Norma Christison who has been at the trust for 18 months.”

Mr Congdon, Mr Shaw and Mr Hall have all been appointed for four years from 1 September 2012 to 31 August 2016. They will all receive annual remuneration of £6,005.
