COMMERCIAL: NHS Surrey has sent an “urgent communication” that a GP practice is to stay in its current location just days before it was planned to move elsewhere.
It follows problems agreeing a new lease between The Practice, South Park, and the primary care trust cluster.
Early in March, NHS Surrey had written to patients of the practice, which is based in Price’s Lane, informing them that the services were moving to Anderson Court in Earlswood on the 30 March.
However, on 27 March, the cluster issued a further statement saying that it was no longer moving due to an agreement being reached on extending the practice’s lease at current market value.
NHS Surrey chief executive Anne Walker said: “I fully recognise that the decision to stay in Price’s Lane and this urgent communication comes within days of the original planned move. I am truly sorry for the worry and confusion this has caused to patients.
“It has been very difficult to balance the desire to keep patients and staff informed of any changes in a timely manner, while acting in a way that ensures the best use of public money.”
Alan Johnson, managing director of The Practice, said: “We look forward to continuing our GP services to this community.
“We recognise that some of our patients may have registered with another practice as a result of the first letter informing them of the practice moving. In light of this news we are more than happy to re-register any patients who wish to remain with us.”
