PERFORMANCE: Sussex patients needing routine neurosurgery may have to travel to London over the next few months because of pressure on the local provider.
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust has been struggling to cope with increased pressure for both elective and emergency services. A report to NHS Sussex says that means it does not have the capacity to see all patients within the national waiting time limits.
So for the next six months the trust will see emergency referrals, suspected cancer cases and elective spinal referrals. GPs are being told to discuss alternative provision with other patients, which is likely to result in more choosing to go to London providers.
