STRUCTURE: The foundation trust is relocating patients from a local independent hospital which is set to close in September.
Independent care provider Care UK is to close Hillside, a small mental health hospital in St Leonards, Hastings, which provides rehabilitation services to eight adults.
A statement from the FT said: “Developments in the rehabilitation services provided by Sussex Partnership have resulted in more people being supported directly by the NHS. This has meant the owners of Hillside have found it harder to fill all the available places so it has been decided to look for alternative uses for the building.”
Care UK will also look at redeployment possibilities for the 19 staff who work at the hospital.
The trust’s assistant service director for working age adult mental health services Ian Watling said: “Every resident’s needs will be assessed to ensure everyone is provided with the most appropriate care. We aim to find the right place for each person so that they can continue their recovery.”
Assuming that the right alternative care can be found for all the patients over the next few months, the unit will close in September.
