- Providers in Dorset and Somerset select Epic as EPR provider
- 10-year contract worth £222m
Four trusts across two integrated care systems have signed a £222m contract with a US supplier for a new shared electronic patient record system.
Somerset Foundation Trust, Dorset County Hospitals Trust, University Hospitals Dorset Trust, and Dorset Healthcare University FT have signed a 10-year contract with Epic for an electronic patient record system that will be shared across the four trusts.
The four, which make up all the providers in Somerset and Dorset Integrated Care Systems, began exploring the option of procuring a single EPR in 2022.
In October 2024, UHD appointed Beverley Bryant as its chief digital officer, and it was expected that she would lead on the EPR programme, having previously overseen the launch of Epic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ FT and King’s College FT.
While DCH and UHD are acute trusts, Somerset FT is an integrated trust which also provides community and mental health services, while Dorset Healthcare is a community and mental health trust.
Dorset Healthcare was selected as one of eight trusts to be assessed as part of the first wave of advanced foundation trusts in November.
