- Mental health trust chair Harry Turner has been appointed to lead an aspiring integrated care provider in Dudley
An aspiring integrated care provider in the West Midlands has appointed an independent chair to lead the future organisation, HSJ can reveal.
Harry Turner, chair of Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership Trust, has been appointed as independent chair of the Dudley multispeciality community provider.
Since 2017, Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group has been planning to create an integrated care provider, which it calls Dudley MCP. Commissioners currently plan to award an ICP contract for all primary and community care services to Dudley MCP by April 2020.
The organisational form of Dudley MCP is yet to be established, however last year the commissioner signalled intentions to split the main acute trust, Dudley Group Foundation Trust, in two, leaving a residual acute trust and creating a new multispecialty community provider. The latter would hold the ICP contract, which would potentially include some form of contractual arrangement with GPs and some primary care commissioning functions.
Previous plans to award the contract by April 2019, were delayed due to complexities in creating the new organisation.
The Dudley Group FT has today announced Mr Turner will initially be an independent chair for the prospective Dudley MCP for the next 12 months as the organisational form of the new provider is finalised.
Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership Trust said it will be announcing its new chair later this week.
In a statement Mr Turner said: “I am thrilled at becoming the MCP chair. It is a great opportunity and an honour to make a difference in an area that you have been bought up in. I am really looking forward to working with all of the partners across primary, acute, mental health, care and voluntary sectors, to develop a whole new way of working that will provide long term health and care benefits for the people of Dudley.”
Diane Wake, chief executive for The Dudley Group FT and chair of the MCP transition board said, “We are delighted Harry is joining the team on this journey to become an MCP. The time is right to have an independent chair to support the establishment of the MCP.”
