FINANCE: Hillingdon Hospitals Foundation trust has won a £30m five-year contract to provide pathology services for patients in Ealing.

The contract is due to start in October and will increase the number of samples analysed by the service - currently 800,000 - by 20 per cent. Sixty extra staff will employed by the trust. A spokesman for the trust said the staff will be paid for with the revenue made by the contract.

Shane DeGaris, chief executive of the trust, said: “We’ve a proven track record in this field and have invested in analytical technology to ensure we remain competitive.”

The trust has pledged to provide a service where GPs can make requests and view pathology reports online. The database will also be linked with West Middlesex University Hospital so that GPs and other clinicians can access a patient’s complete pathological and radiological record.

The trust already runs pathology services for neighbouring borough Hounslow, a contract it won two years ago.
